Author Guidelines

Consultant For Pediatricians is a peer-reviewed clinical journal that provides practical information on various issues in pediatrics in a visually engaging and concise format for busy practitioners.

Submissions

All submissions require images for consideration.

Please submit all materials by e-mail to Michael Gerchufsky at: mgerchufsky@hmpcommunications.com

Upon submission, list all authors on a title page indicating titles and affiliations for each. Provide a mailing address, e-mail address, and phone/fax numbers for the corresponding author.

Full author financial disclosure and any information regarding conflict of interest must be provided in the title page at the time of manuscript submission.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission and paying fees to reproduce any tables, figures, or other illustrations that were originally published elsewhere; written documentation of this permission should be submitted along with the manuscript.

Laboratory values should be expressed using conventional units of measure.

Medications should be referred to by their generic names throughout the manuscript and in all illustrations.

All references should be cited in full and provided in AMA style, as shown below. Please do not use an endnotes format, as this makes editing difficult. References with more than 6 authors listed should use "et al" after the third name. References should be numerically cited in the text and listed at the end of the article in the order in which they appear.

Style:
Ooi YK, Mietus-Snyder M, Torres C, Mohan P, Harahsheh A. Lipoprotein-X accumulation: a mimic of familial hypercholesterolemia. Consultant Pediatricians. 2013;12(2):63-65.

Case Reports

Case reports should have instructional value and highlight the key points (eg, unusual finding or noteworthy treatment). The text, submitted as a Microsoft Word file, should be no more than 2 double-spaced pages (a maximum limit of about 500 words). Please include the patient's sex and age and, if relevant, race. Describe the pertinent facts in the history; presenting signs and symptoms; diagnostic procedures and findings; possible therapies and, specifically, the treatment chosen for this patient and why others were excluded. Please include sequelae and recurrence rate of the disease, as well as the patient's outcome.

Photographs must be original. High-resolution (300 dpi, 4" X 5") JPEG images are preferred. Other acceptable image formats include EPS, PICT, BMP, and TIFF. Images in PowerPoint files are also acceptable. Please submit images separately from Microsoft Word files.

For photographs in which patients are identifiable, authors must include a signed Patient/Parent Consent Form (to request a copy of this form, please e-mail the Editor at mgerchufsky@hmpcommunications.com).

Review Process

All manuscripts submitted for publication in Consultant For Pediatricians will be sent out for peer review. The corresponding author will be notified of the editorial board's decision within 6 to 8 weeks of submission; however, at certain times, delays are unavoidable.

Accepted manuscripts are edited according to AMA and journal style; the corresponding author will receive an edited manuscript for approval before publication.

SPECIAL NOTE: Regrettably, we find it necessary to emphasize two points:

• As a matter of editorial policy, we will not publish manuscripts that have been written by, or whose development has been funded by, a pharmaceutical company, public relations agency, or similar outside source.

• All articles and case reports published in Consultant For Pediatricians must be original. Although you may have written on the same subject at other times, the manuscript submitted to our journal should be substantially different. All manuscripts are considered for publication with the understanding that they have been submitted to this journal only and have not been published, submitted simultaneously, or accepted for publication elsewhere.
